Arapkoy which means “Arab village” has its name that can be traced back to the origins of the village, since it is believed that when the Ottomans arrived in Cyprus, Arapkoy or as it was formerly known; ‘Klepini’ was inhabited by Arabic-speaking Maronites. The village is famous for two of its ancient churches: the Church of St Luke which is an 18th century building which had the western section added in the 19th century and its southern door was blocked at some unknown date, and the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Byzantine origin that had been completely rebuilt with none of its original features remaining. There is also mention of a curious local tradition which says that not more than forty families can ever live in the village; should there be more, death will inevitably level the number by the end of the year, but these superstitions have long been disputed as more than forty families have lived and currently live in this picturesque village!

Just a few minutes away is the town of Сatalkoy town, close to the villages of Bellapais and Ozankoy and is known for its affluent residents with its quaint, old-world feel and epitomises the ’Mediterranean village’ with its town square and whitewashed buildings.
Popular with tourists and locals alike Catalkoy is close enough to Kyrenia town centre so that you’ll never be far from the action, and yet not too close that you’ll never have a peaceful moment.
